Utilize exceptional communication and organizational skills to support the P&C Account Underwriter in compiling complete and accurate submission on behalf of assigned agents to the underwriting company(ies).  Facilitate fast and friendly service in placing business on behalf of agents and in communication with underwriting companies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Review / complete applications and submits to appropriate carriers per Account Underwriter’s direction.

  2. Compile data as needed to validate the underwriting file.  Information may be provided by the agent or gathered from external sources such as ISO, e2Value, online photos, or insureds’ websites.

  3. Enter data required to develop rate and coverage for new policies; apply policy forms; endorsements and deductibles as prescribed by the carriers’ underwriting guidelines or at the carriers’ underwriters’ direction.

  4. Contact the agent for missing information or follow-up per carriers’ direction.

  5. Properly apply forms, endorsements, and deductibles to help mitigate risk within carriers’ underwriting guidelines. 

  6. Prepare and send proposals on behalf of MGU’s underwriter.

  7. Process new business bind requests, renewal policies and endorsement requests.  Invoice new / renewal policies and endorsements accordingly.

  8. Order loss control inspections or motor vehicle records as needed.

  9. Check policies upon receipt from carrier to ensure correctness.

  10. File surplus lines policies with the states’ surplus lines departments.

  11. Provide fast and friendly service and technical expertise to agents.

  12. Develop and maintain agency and customer relationships.

  13. Train and cross train team members on systems, underwriting requirements, and coverages for appointed carriers.

  14. Keep current on regulatory issues and regulations, industry activity and freely share that information with others.

  15. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Education Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate degree or equivalent business experience.

  • Agency or company underwriting experience.

  • Proficient in the use of contemporary business software (Microsoft Suite).

  • P&C General Lines Agent License within 120 days of start date.

  • Industry specific designation (AINS, AU, CPCU) or the willingness to complete designation within prescribed time period.

Physical Requirements:

  • Job conditions may require light lifting, sitting, walking and standing

  • May be required to sit at a desk or computer for long periods of time

  • Ability to see details of objects at a close range (within a few feet of the observer)

  • Ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands and wrists
